As 2009 continues to fly by, Anglia Accountancy training celebrates yet another important milestone. It is hard to deliver success year on year yet AAt do this and maintain their uniquely high pass rate of 93%, with 285 passes out of 305 exams sat. Students performed exceptionally well in papers PLB, PCR and PTax achieving a 100%pass rate, whilst all other papers by far exceeded the national averages.
“Across all AAT papers the students of Anglia Accountancy training have shown what hard work and determination can deliver,” – Jenny Gidney. We’d also like to say well done to the students taking their CIMA qualification and the 92% pass rate achieved. Congratulations to everyone who has passed!
It is an AAt tradition to celebrate the end of each academic year with a small celebration for both students and staff. So, what was in store for the class of 2009? Well you might ask what place could be better for a group of accountants? A night of fun and frolics at the Dogs is not quite the relaxed atmosphere you’d expect but sure is a good way to celebrate the end of term. Mixing with other accountants, the turf variety – it had to be something to do with money!
Some of you might recall Lisa Boughton’s appearance in the very first edition of AAt’s Plus magazine back in 2005. Even then Victor had identified her as a student who would go far. It was at this time in 2005 that Lisa had just completed all 3 AAT qualifications passing the Foundation, Intermediate and Technician levels. Lisa’s journey started whilst looking for part time employment following a career break to raise a family. It was her past experience of working in a Bank that helped her get a role as Finance Manager within a Facility Management Company that looks after Perkins Engines based in Peterborough.

Those of you familiar with Anglia Accountancy training will no doubt know of, or heard about, Sally Tebbs. Sally has been working with AAt for over 13 years, and joined the team not long after it was established in 1996. Although employed by Boston College Sally is an extension of AAt reaching out to both students and employers across the Peterborough and South Lincolnshire area offering her services to meet the demands of work based learning. When you ask Sally why she does what she does her response is, “I’ve been doing this work since 1991, I still get the buzz from doing what I do. No student is the same and things constantly evolve and change meaning that you have to adapt.”

For a number of years now we have been reporting great sets of results for Anglia Accountancy training and this year is no different! 2008 was always going to be a difficult and challenging year for the students taking their Technician exams. This follows the change of approach by the examiners across the PEV and PCR papers in particular. “It meant that the students needed to be a lot broader in what they were looking at and clearly had to draw on knowledge from the Intermediate qualifications,” states Victor

As we step into 2009, the current economic climate is a topic playing heavily on lots of minds. Aside from the decline of interest rates and reduced spending on the high street, one other area that is feeling the pinch of the credit crunch is recruitment with vast numbers of businesses (as many as 74%) putting recruitment freezes into place. 2008 has been a great year for many reasons, whether it is the medal haul of the British team at this year’s Olympic Games or the appointment of the first African American President in the U.S. – 2008 was definitely a year to remember. AAt also celebrated its own accomplishments in 2008 achieving another great set of exam results with a 92% pass rate. But as the year draws to a close the team is set to see the year out with yet more success.
Following a recent OFSTED inspection Victor and Jenny are pleased to announce that Anglia Accountancy training successfully passed with flying colours. “This is a credit not only to the whole team whose dedication over the past year has helped us achieve this, but also to the students who have worked extremely hard,” states Jenny. On top of the OFSTED inspection AAt have also just renewed their licence to teach until 2012, following an intensive inspection. “After 12 years of practice we are used to the demands and high standards required for a licence, so we are really pleased to have achieved this again” states Victor. Awaiting the results of an exam is always a nerve wracking experience. For one student though this is combined with the celebration of a very special birthday.
We are pleased to announce that the wait is over and that student Anita Flanz has passed all three levels of AAT within the last eighteen months. Congratulations! We hope the birthday celebrations went well and that you continue to celebrate on your qualification success.
Never mind the Oscars or even the BAFTAs it’s that time of year again when Anglia Accountancy training announces its ‘Student of the Year’ for 2008. This year the accolade goes to one very deserving student by the name of Sarah Kirby. Sarah has been studying with AAt since 2003, starting with the Foundation qualification. It was this year that saw Sarah gain her Technician qualification. It might seem like a long time to complete all three qualifications but she has done this whilst having 2 children, working in a non accounting environment full time and fitting studying in wherever possible, not to mention funding all of this herself.
Anglia Accountancy training is pleased to announce that they have recently signed an exclusive agreement with Boston College to be sole providers of AAT qualifications and work based learning. AAt have had a long standing relationship with Boston College providing training at the centre for three years. As a result both Victor, Jenny and the team at Boston College are very pleased to cement this association with an exclusive deal. “It makes sense to link with such an established education centre, we are able to offer much more to a broader base of students, giving them the opportunity to train and develop their careers” states Victor.
As a specialist provider, AAt has always prided itself on being able to assist students in their career development by finding suitable establishments where experience can be gained to also advising on what funding is available. The cost of training is a harsh reality that can put many students off further study. AAt believe that no-one should sacrifice their personal development due to education fees when funding can be sought, especially for those under the age of 25.
